Hot Toys Michael Jackson BAD DX 03 Review

Ah Hot Toys third deluxe box set figure (DX) an odd choice for the series I thought seeing as they have a music icons line and they released the Thriller version of MJ under the music icons banner. I'd also say that compared to the Joker and Batman, this one is pretty light on extras. Anyway on with the pictures.

Of course this itteration of Michael Jackson is based on the "Bad" music video/era. It's very well done and the outfit has been given a lot of attention and detail.

All the belts and buckles are present and look great. Hot Toys have used metal in a few places too which is nice to see.

The boots are really cool and all the little buckles are individual, a lesser company would have just sculpted the buckles into the leg or boot.

Of course being a DX version, he comes with the Hot Toys Parallel Eye Rolling System, its cool being able to move the eyes, and gives the figure way more range when posing him up. Oddly though I'm starting to prefer figures that don't have P.E.R.S, is it just me or do the eyes seem a bit big?

The back of his hair detatches and is held in place by a small magnet. This allows access to the small Stick that controls the eyes.

Here's a picture of him standing proudly on my toy cluttered desk hah.

He comes with the customary DX stand with light up features. It's a nice stand though I notice they have dropped the design in the recently announced DX 04 Bruce Lee.

The face is very well done, even in extreme close up, there's no paint slop or sculpt faults. Hot Toys must have an astoundingly good production crew.

You may or may not have noticed that I've not really gone for any other poses or swapped his hands for the others that are included. Basically the reason for this is that his hands are a total pain to change, firstly his right hand has sharp metal spikes on it which makes it difficult to grip and push into place, also I'm always afraid of breaking the spikes off. Also under the glove he has a material slip on sleeve which hides the ball joint. You have to feed that over the little peg and then push it into place. Sooo I intend on NEVER changing his hands again haha.

He also has a white vest and shirt that you can dress him in, but alas as above, its really annoying swapping his hands out. Additionally to remove his black shirt you have to undo his belts and buckles, talk about a massive pain. I much prefer the black jacket look so I made the decision to leave the vest and shirt in its original packaging. Well that's all for now, I have to go to work now :( Bit of a short/lazy review I feel but to be honest I was all too busy playing with my new camera haha.

  1. Thanks for your reviews here and the buckles on the outfit and boots looks very nice. The head sculpt is definitely much much better than the earlier release. Great score for this piece :P
