NECA TMNT Baby Turtle Accessory Set Review + NECA Mikey pics

I couldn't resist rounding off my Neca 1/4 Turtle figures by getting this accessory kit that's come out recently. The 4 baby turtles are based off the flash back sequence from the 1990 movie where Master Splinter recalls finding the newly born heroes in a half shell along with the broken Ooze canister.

Ejnoy the pictures!

I don't normally do packaging pictures as it's the least important aspect for me, but to be fair to NECA they always do a great job. The box is simple and has large bright images plastered all over it. There's something about it that feels very retro.

Sculpt: All four turtles are essentially the same figure, although if you pay really close attention it's actually 2 pairs of figures. Each pair has a slightly different shell configuration. The sculpts are great across the board. They are very cute and goofy looking just like the original prop in the film. I love how they all seem to be smiling. All the muscles and skin creases that are sculpted really brings the turtles to life.

Paint: In the main it's good. Perhaps NECA could have done a slight better job on the eyes as there's a little bit of colour bleed around the white.

The green colouring on the body is blended and shaded really nicely though, it's like an airbrushed effect so there's darks and lights all over the figure. Something about the colour and paintwork makes them really photograph well I thought! I also like how their beaks have a yellow tint to them too, it makes the faces pop out. There are also slightly different paint jobs per figure, it's easy to tell if you look at the spots on each figures chest.

Articulation: To be brutal it's really limited, but honestly it's what I expected. They basic ball joints at the shoulder and neck/head. So there's no movement at all in the lower half of the figure and very limited articulation in the arms. Really these things are just meant for display I guess. There is slight articulation in the mouth so at least you can vary the look a little from Turtle to Turtle.

Accessories: Hmm so for an 'accessory pack' it really could have come with a couple extra things. Before I get to that though, aside from the turtles themselves the set comes with a 'band-aid' sticker set so you can basically create the baby Raphael. It also has a larger band-aid sticker which I believe is for use on the adult Donatello. Also included is a bag of chips and an empty pizza box (made from card) plus 4 pieces of Pizza. The Pizza's seem to be a slightly different sculpt to the ones that come with the adult figures but you can't really tell until you place them side by side.

Last but not least you also get an extra hand for the adult Michelangelo figure, a nunchuk twirling hand (pictured under the next image). The nunchuk spins on the finger tip which is unexpected and kind of cool.

Things that NECA could also have included? How about Michelangelo's toy pipe? or perhaps little reproductions of April O'neils sketches? I hate to sound ungrateful but something about this set just feels lacking. The fact that it comes with an extra piece for Mikey just seems odd. I would have preferred if they had released 4 sets - one for each turtle perhaps. They could have then expanded what you get, ie Skateboard, hat for Donnie etc. Ah well, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with what we did get. I'm just annoyed that they released a second version of Raphael that came with his trench coat disguise tut.

FYI the canister doesn't come with the set.

It's easy to forget how big the 1/4 Turtle figures are, here's Mikey holding one of the infant figures.

Here's a couple bonus pictures of Michelangelo, just because he's phone to photograph.

Coke can for scale. He's huge!
